8 years and counting

Eight years ago today we were sitting at the Olive Garden giggling over "super salads" and silly little inside jokes that only we can understand. We weren't in high school yet. We weren't worried about our hair, or our weight, we didn't care if we were being too loud, and we didn't bother with make-up. Eight years ago today you turned thirteen. Today, you're 21. And tonight we'll once again find ourselves sitting at the Olive Garden celebrating another mile stone. Today we'll spend an hour getting ready, we will make sure our make-up and hair is just right, and we'll talk about our future. Who would've thought that we'd be where we are today?

Over the years we've stayed up all night laughing, we've shared tears, we have gotten into trouble and we have made poor choices, we've gone through romance and heart break, we've had our share of fights, and we've made many memories that will never be forgotten. You were there when my family fell apart. You were there when I fell apart.

Today, you're 21. The past eight years have flown by so quickly, I can't imagine the next eight will slow down. Before we know it we'll be hitting 30, we'll most likely be married with children. We'll have cute houses, nice cars, and pretty clothes. Our husbands will love us in the way we deserve. We will be successful, we will be happy, and our lives will be filled with joy. Our lives will also be tinted with hard times, struggles, and not-so-happy-moments, but it'll be worth it. Never give up, keep fighting, and never settle. You've been my best friend for many years now. And although we don't always stay in touch, I know you'll always be there and I know we'll always have each other.

Happy birthday to one of my most cherished friends.
