Atlanta/Phillies: game one

Yes, the Braves beat the Phillies in the first game of the series, just like David took down Goliath. I'm trying not to get too excited about this feat - but I can't help it. I am stoked. The Phillies, projected to win the division, got shut out last night (they only managed two hits) as the Braves kicked major Philadelphia butt in a 5-0 win for their sixth straight victory!  Starter Derek Lowe of Atlanta played an impressive game - even more impressive than Philadelphia's Cliff Lee. Once again, Braves pitching stole the show. Runs go to: Alex Gonzalez, Chipper Jones, Brian McCann, Martin Prado, and Jason Heyward.

Now here's the question in the back of many people's minds: do the Braves have a shot at winning the NL east this year? The Answer is yes. Yes, they do have a shot. The Braves may not have many league leaders on their team, but the team is constant and solid. Not to mention have a very legit pitching line up. And, out of the whole NL, they are right there at the top. Currently the Phillies have a .677 percentage, the Marlins with .613, the Rockies with .600, the Cardinals with .576, and the Braves with .559. I'd be surprised if the Braves didn't at least get the Wild Card.

Tonight top pitching prospect Julio Teheran is making a debut appearance against the Phillies. I am a bit nervous about this since the Braves need to bring the best to the table, despite Philadelphia's lack of hitting skills. Maybe, just maybe, Teheran will "wow" us all. After all, he is the fifth-best overall prospect and just won International League pitcher of the week. I'll hope for the best.

Runs: 139, 145
Runs against: 103, 102
BA: .260, .243
HR: 26, 34

Minus the batting average, the Braves are ahead of the Phillies in those individual areas. Let's play ball, Atlanta.
